Mr. Girum Girma owns 12 hectares of coffee land in the Oromia Regional State, Guji Zone, Urga District. His farm is located near the small town of Haro Wachu. Most of his income is derived from his coffee farm, although he also grows vegetables and Enset (false banana) in his backyard garden for daily consumption. A portion of his garden is used for farming, but the bulk of his produce comes from his coffee plantation.
Mr. Girum’s farm is one of the largest in the district by land size. He is the father of nine children, and his entire family works full-time on the farm. While he ensures that most of his children attend school, they assist on the farm after school, which typically consists of a half-day session.
Single Farmer Project
The Single Farmer Project is the result of an effort to support Ethiopian producers with a marketplace for farm-traceable coffees.
The project began in 2012, during a turbulent time in Ethiopia's coffee exporting history, Cafe Import's partner and CEO Jason Long worked with an established cooperative to export some of the first ever truly “Farm Traceable” lots from Ethiopia.
This was the first time a roaster could highlight the individual farmer for their Ethiopian Coffee. This project is made possible in conjunction with important export partners supporting and bringing to market individual farmer lots.
