La Merced is a historic coffee estate located in San Martín Jilotepeque, within Guatemala’s Acatenango region. The farm has belonged to the Alburez-Ortega family since 1832, with coffee first planted there in 1912. Today, its operations are shared across several members of the family.
The farm sits between 1,500 and 1,700 metres above sea level, where Typica and Pache are grown beneath dense shade. Its moisture-rich clay-loam soil, along with minerals supplied by the nearby Fuego volcano, creates a lush and biodiverse environment for coffee cultivation.
For this natural lot, ripe cherries were carefully hand-picked and rested overnight in a cool environment. They were then slowly dried on raised beds and patios for up to 22 days. The result is a fruity and richly textured coffee, with concentrated fruit sweetness and cacao nibs finish.
We roast on every Monday and dispatch on Tuesday.
